2.2 Well Abandonment <br /> All well abandonment procedures will be performed in accordance with the San Joaquin County <br /> Environmental Health Well Standards (undated), Section 6,Destruction of Wells. A permit for <br /> well destruction will be obtained from San Joaquin County prior to initiating any abandonment <br /> ' work. <br /> ' Wells MW-1 and MW-12 will be abandoned by the following procedures: <br /> ' Existing pumps and other downhole appurtenances and/or obstructions will be removed. <br /> Where possible, pumping equipment will be retained for potential reuse in other site <br /> wells. <br /> • Prior to grouting, a hole at least one foot larger in diameter than the original boring will <br /> be excavated to a depth of three feet below grade. The well casing will be cut at this <br /> depth and removed . Grout used to seal the well will be allowed to fill the excavation to a <br /> depth of one foot. After the grout hardens adequately,the excavation will be backfilled <br /> ' with clean, inert soil material and covered with asphalt or concrete to match surrounding <br /> surface materials. <br /> ' The remaining borings will be pressure grouted through a tremie pipe placed immediately <br /> above the bottom of the boring. Cement grout will be used and will be mixed in <br /> conformance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specification <br /> D5299.
