Soil Sample Collection
The soil probe borings were sampled at discreet five-foot intervals using a 1.125" Geoprobe soil
sampling assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the ends of the
+ second sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape.
Each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
6W transported to a McCampbell Analytical Inc. (MAI), a California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory. Selected samples were analyzed for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), by EPA Method 8015m
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MTBE) by EPA Method 8620.
3.1.2. Equipment Decontamination
L Prior to sample collection, Geoprobe soil sampling equipment was thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. Geoprobe rods were thoroughly cleaned prior
to soil probe boring advancement.
' 3.2. MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
On 01 March 2001, a two-stage submersible pump was used to purge monitoring well MW-1 of
standing water. Approximately 12 gallons of water were removed from the well (approximately 3
US casing water volumes).
3.3. COLLECTION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
Following purging and allowing a minimum of 80% recovery of initial water volume in the wells,
water samples were collected from the purged well using a new disposable plastic bailer. The water
sample was transferred into laboratory-supplied 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0.5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative. After collection, the samples were properly labeled,
placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI and were analyzed for:
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015m.
• BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
!s
