f
R
V
2.0
INVESTIGATION METHODS
a
I
A proposal for a Phase Two Site Investigation was submitted on May 28, 1997 and j
fieldwork was completed on June 24, 1997. Procedures in the proposal were adhered to j
during the field activities. A site specific health and safety plan (HASP) was developed
in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
l
guidelines set forth in"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" (29 CFR
1910.120). The HASP was reviewed and signed by all ENTRIX personnel and
subcontractors performing work on the site. A copy was present on-site at all times and
was kept in an easily accessible location.
i
j
I
Utility clearance was obtained at the site prior to commencing with subsurface
installations. The Underground Services Alert network was notified at least 48 hours
prior to the start of work activities. Because an underground irrigation pipeline is known
to exist in the vicinity of the inactive septic system, the South San Joaquin Irrigation
District was contacted and the pipeline location marked prior to the commencement of
activities.
A San Joaquin County well permit was applied for and received prior to initiating field
drilling activities. Mr. Steve Sasson of the County of San Joaquin observed boring
abandonment operations at the site. All borings were drilled. and abandoned in
compliance with permit requirements. A copy of the well permit application is included
in Appendix A.
The remainder of this section summarizes activities conducted to complete the soil
sampling and analysis plan submitted in the proposal.
2.1 VISUAL INSPECTION OF SEPTIC SYSTEM AND OIL—WATER SEPARATOR
The inactive septic system was pumped out by Clark's Septic Service of Manteca, CA on
i
June 24, 1997.
