the tank was pumped out the interior was inspected. No significant cracks were found.
The tank consisted of two chambers with an underflow/overflow weir separating the
influent and effluent chambers. The effluent chamber also had a series of underflow
baffles which act as a weir. Dealership personnel did not know of the existence of a
leachfield on the Subject Property. No physical evidence of a leachfield was observed
during the investigation.
The dealership e slop arranged for the removal of the oil-water separator contents on June 24,
1997. ENTRIX personnel inspected the oil-water separator-and found no significant
cracks or other structural defects. Eight shallow surface cracks (less than 1/8 inch deep)
were noted, none of the cracks were longer than 12 inches, or wider than 1/16 inch.
2.2 LOCATION OF SOIL BORINGS
The locations of the soil borings installed in Service Building 1 are shown in Figure 2.
The borings were located within three feet of the former inground hoist locations. Boring
number IL-1 was located within three feet of both a former inground hoist and the former
.,..J used oil UST location. Therefore, the sample collected from 8 feet below ground surface
(bgs) was used to characterize potential impact from the former waste oil UST. The
borings near the inactive septic tank were located directly adjacent to the tank(Figure 2).
2.3 SOIL BORING INSTALLATION `
The borings were installed g s ed using a hydraulic hammer ng (Geoprobe) mounted on a full
size pickup truck. The advantages of this type of sampling equipment are the size and.
maneuverability of the rig in the confined spaces of the service bays and that no drill
cuttings are generated during the drilling process.
Borings near the former locations of inground hoists were advanced to a depth of 12 feet
bgs, with the exception of IL-7 which was advanced to 16 feet bgs due to suspected
hydrocarbon impact at 12 feet bgs.
The borings near the inactive septic tank were advanced to a depth of 12 feet bgs.
2-2
