Mr. Ron Rowe CAMBRIA
July 11, 1997
monitoring,we may need to install additional wells to define the extent of the hydrocarbons in ground water.
The specific tasks to be performed include:
Utility Location: Cambria will notify Underground Service Alert of our drilling activities to identify utilities
in the site vicinity.
i
I
Site Health and Safety Plan: We will prepare a comprehensive site safety plan to protect site workers. The
plan will be kept on site at all times and signed by all site workers.
i
Permits: We will obtain well permits from the San Joaquin County Department of Public Health Services
(SJCPHS)for the installationof the well.
Soil Boring: Cambria will drill one soil boring to approximately 35 feet depth to define the extent of
hydrocarbons below the source area. Our proposed boring location is shown on Figure 2. Our sampling
protocol is described in Attachment A. We will select soil samples for chemical analysis based on
observations of staining and odor and on the results of field screening with a portable vapor analyzer. Based
i
on your information, we anticipate encountering ground water at about 20 feet depth.
Monitoring Well Construction: The boring will be converted into a two-inch diameter ground water
i
monitoring well screened about 5 feet above and 15 feet below the static water table (Figure 2). The well
head will be sealed and locked beneath a traffic-rated vault.
Chemical Analysis: The soil and ground water samples will be analyzed for TPHg,benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene,and xylenes, (BTEX)and methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE)by EPA Methods 8015/8020. If MTBE
is detected, we will confirm the highest MTBE sample using EPA Method 8260.
Reporting: After the analytic results are received,we will prepare a subsurface investigation report that, at
a minimum, will contain:
• A summary of the site background and history,
i
• Descriptions of the drilling and soil sampling methods,
• Boring log and well construction diagram,
• Tabulated soil and ground water analytic results,
2
