Geological TOMM CS
Confirmation GW Sampling WP
Project No.770.2
February 28,2011
2.4.1 Groundwater Sampling Procedure
Before sampling is attempted, the wells.;will be sounded for depth to water. The wells will be
purged using a dedicated Waterra® check-ball assembly;arid 1/2 inch tubing. Purging will
continue until the temperature, conductivity and pH of!the groundwater have stabilized
(<10% variation among three readings) indicating that formation water representative of
aquifer conditions is entering the wells. Water quality parameters will be measured at
intervals of each well volume purged.
r Once purging is complete, a water sample will be collected from the Waterra® tube. Care
L will be taken to minimize sample agitation. Once the sample container is filled and capped,
the bottle will be inverted, tapped and checked for headspace bubbles. The sample container
will be identified and labeled with a unique designation, inserted into foam holders and
placed into an ice chest cooled to 4°C for transport to the laboratory.
All non-disposable sampling equipment will be decontaminated in an Alconox® solution and
will be double-rinsed with de-ionized water before initial use and between uses at each
monitoring well. Disposable gloves were used by the technician to collect all samples and
were changed with each sample collection.
A chain of custody document, listing all samples collected, will accompany the samples from
field to laboratory, thereby providing a means to track their movement and insure their
integrity.
All water purged from each monitoring well and not used as a sample will be placed in.a
properly labeled 55 gallon DOT approved container and stored. on-site until its proper
r disposition can be arranged.
2.5 Groundwater Laboratory Analysis
All groundwater samples will be submitted to a State Certified Laboratory for analysis. The
laboratory will be selected through a bidding process after Work plan approval. Groundwater
samples will be submitted for the following analysis:
■ Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D) by EPA method 8015B(M)
■ Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylenes (BTEX)by EPA method 8260
■ Naphthalene by EPA method 8260
Geological Tectmics/nc. 6
7702 Confirmation GW Sampling 2-25-1 l.doc
