' Gea(o "e _s <br /> Inc Page 2 <br /> Site Cacterization Report <br /> Marci's Property <br /> i September 18,2000 <br /> ' Monitoring Well at MW-6 Location <br /> ➢ At the location of MW-6, a 75-foot monitoring well will be installed <br /> ' 2.1 Borehole Drilling& Well Installation <br /> In accordance with the above work plan, three (3) soil borings MW-105, MW-5 and MW-6 <br /> ' were drilled to total depths of 95, 70 and 70 feet below grade surface (bgs), respectively The <br /> water table wells were screened 5 feet above and 10 feet below the water table These <br /> boreholes were drilled with an 8-inch outside diameter, continuous flight, hollow-stem auger <br /> owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 720904) from Rio Vista, California <br /> 1 Monitoring well permits were secured from the SJC PHS/EHD The local regulatory agency <br /> was notified 48 hours prior to commencing work <br /> ' Soil cuttings and drilling decontamination water were placed in DOT approved 55 gallon <br /> drums and moved to the back of the site until their disposal can be arranged <br /> ' 2.11 Soil Sampling Procedure <br /> Soil samples were collected for geological and laboratory evaluation at five-foot intervals <br /> ' from ground surface to total depth in borings MW-105 and MW-6 Boring MW-5 was free <br /> drilled to 70 feet bgs without sampling due to its proximity to boring MW-105 A boring log <br /> providing sediment description using the USCS and field observations was maintained by a <br /> professional geologist working under the supervision of a registered geologist Soil samples <br /> were collected in 6 0-inch brass liners using a 2 0-inch modified California split spoon <br /> sampler All soil samples were sealed with Teflon sheets, capped with plastic end caps, <br /> labeled, and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory following Chain of <br /> ' Custody protocol An OVM was used to screen the soil samples (some core samples were <br /> unable to be screened with the OVM due to incomplete recovery) <br /> ' Details on the geology encountered during the completion of the soil sampling as well as the <br /> field observations are included in Section 3 2, Geology and Field Observations <br /> ' 2.1.2 Laboratory Analyses <br /> Soil <br /> Six soil samples from boring MW-105 and four soil samples from boring MW-6 were <br /> submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar, California (State Certified Laboratory #1400) <br /> ' for the following analysis <br /> • benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX by EPA method 8020) <br /> • diesel range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Diesel by EPA method 3540/8015m) <br /> ' . total lead (EPA method 6010B) <br /> A chain of custody was completed for all samples submitted and tracked to ensure sample <br /> ' integrity <br /> 2.2 Monitoring Well Installation <br /> To investigate the presence of diesel range petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater at this <br /> site, Geological Technics Inc installed two shallow monitoring wells MW-5 and MW-6, and <br /> one discretely screened deep well, MW-105 Well pair MW-5 and MW-105 were placed <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br />
