The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained in the coring tool. Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is removed. The cylinder is then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon end caps and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. The remainder is used for geologic logging. Up to three soil samples per Geoprobe location will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis, with the capillary fringe soil sample from each borehole analyzed as a minimum. Groundwater Grab Sampling The expected depth to groundwater is approximately 25 — 35 feet below ground surface (bgs). Upon reaching the capillary fringe a hydropunch type sampling tool will be advanced 3 feet into the groundwater and a groundwater sample will be collected. The samples are collected from either a mini stainless steel bailer or utilizing tubing and ball check valve with gentle transfer into VOA vials. The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped, and checked for headspace bubbles. The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and sampling equipment. The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution. After the groundwater grab sample is collected the borehole will be closed with a neat cement grout containing less then 4% bentonite. 2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses Up to 9 soil samples will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar (State Certified Laboratory #1400) for analysis for: • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020. • Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method 5030/8015(m). • Gasoline oxygenates (MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME and TBA) by EPA method 8260. The detection limits for these compounds are listed below.
