Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
SUBJECT: BEACON STATION NUMBER 492, 470 NORTH MAIN STREET,
MANTECA, CALIFORNIA
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
This correspondence is in response to your letter dated May 21, 1996. As you are aware, the-
above-referenced property still utilizes single-walled USTs and product piping. This site will be
upgraded to a double-walled system prior to the 1998 mandated deadline. However, the upgrade
could be completed:sooner°if Ultramar deems-it appropriate and all necessary permits from San
Joaquin County cari be obtained.
We would prefer to leave the monitoring wells in-place until after the removal of the single-walled
USTs, as,we do not want,to risk needing to install new wells based on the findings of the UST
removal project.•We do•not understand the pressing need to abandon groundwater monitoring .
wells that may be needed in the future, assuming the sanitary seals are in-place(which they are)
and an expandable caps are secure in each well (which they are). Also, as evidenced in the
closure letter from the CRWQCB-Central Valley Region, no further work need to be
implemented until the UST replacement project.
Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions about this project at(209) 583-5571
Sincere!y -
ULTRAMAR INC.
Kenneth R.
