' shut off period. If the system is fully operational (i.e., no unscheduled down time) each sparge
point is operated 16 cycles per day. This is a total of 128 minutes per day for injection at each of
' the eight separate sparge points (for IW1 through IW4) and 256 minutes for the combined sparge
points at IW5 or a total system operation of 1280 minutes per day(Table 3).
The maximum delivery rate for 03 from the C-SpargeTM system at the Jamar property is 4 grams
per hour. This equates to 0.002204622 pounds per hour. The injection rates for the system range
between 2.0 and 3.0 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) based on the manufacturers
specifications (Attachment 4).
4.2.2 Remediation Well Description
Table 4 includes a summary of the injection well completion data for the Jamar site. Figure 13 is
a general well completion diagram for the injection wells. The general construction of the C-
SpargeTM wells consisted of a .75 inch inside diameter(ID) blank casing coupled to a 1" ID - 30"
long ozone diffuser. Within each injection well, two Spargepoints@ were set. The tops of the
sparge points in all injection wells (IW1-IW5) were set at approximately 71.5 and 105.2 feet
' below ground surface (bgs). The isolated SpargepointsO are separated by approximately 31.2 feet
in each injection well. The base of the shallow ozone diffuser is at approximately 74.0 feet bgs
and the top of the lower ozone diffuser is at approximately 105.2 feet bgs. These ozone diffusers
were placed in an eight-inch diameter hole.
' From approximately one foot below the bottom of lower diffuser to approximately two feet
above the top of the lower diffuser, each hole was filled with Number 3 sand. Above the lower
diffuser, a blank, 0.75" ID casing was coupled to the diffuser and then installed to surface.
Between the top of the sand (i.e., above the lower ozone diffuser) and one foot below the bottom
of the upper ozone diffuser, each hole was bentonite-sealed in the annular space to prevent short-
circuiting.
Above the upper ozone diffuser, a blank, 0.75" ID casing was also coupled to the diffuser and
then installed to surface. Number 3 sand was placed around the upper diffuser to two feet above
its top, a three-foot bentonite plug was placed from above the Number 3 sand, and then the
annular space in the hole was sealed to the surface with a cement grout. A 12"diameter well box
was placed at surface.
The predominant soil type adjacent to the lower diffuser was fine or fine to medium sands. The
predominant soil type adjacent to the upper diffuser was silt or silty clays_
4.2.3 Groundwater Monitoring Well Network for the Remediation System
Seven onsite groundwater monitoring wells (MW 1, MW2, MW3, MW4, MWS, MWS and EW-
1) make up the remediation system monitoring well network at the Jarnar site. Nine offsite wells
(MW6a, MW6b, MW6c, MW7a, MW7b, MW7c, MW9a, MW9b and MW9c) are used for
' additional groundwater monitoring information but not part of the active remediation system.
s:1268231QM reportsi2004 3QR.doc 6 ATC Associates Inc.
