INTENTIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
- 3 . 0 METHODOLOGY
This investigation will consist of three soil borings :
• two to a depth of twenty feet
• one to a depth of fourty-five feet
The soil borings will be located as shown in Figure 2 . Sampling
and analysis are described in Sections 3 . 1, 3 . 2 and 3 . 3 .
3 . 1 SOIL BORING/SAMPLING
._ Prior to the commencement of drilling, all underground utilities
will be located. Soil borings will be advanced using a hollow
stem auger drill rig. A California C-57 licensed driller will be
subcontracted to perform the drilling services . The IT field
geologist will conduct a tailgate safety meeting at the beginning
of the iay to insure that field activities are performed in
accordance with the Health and Safety Plan (Appendix A) .
Prior to drilling at each borehole, all augers will be thoroughly
steam cleaned. The split spoon sampler and brass tube inserts
will be cleaned prior to each sampling event with a non-phosphate
detergent scrubbing followed by a water rinse, and a final
distilled water rinse . Boreholes will be logged and soil samples
will be obtained by using a modified California sampler under the
direction of IT' s field geologist . Soils will be described using
the visual method of the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS) . Sampling methods will include grab samples for soil
description and examination as well as samples in decontaminated
brass tubes for laboratory analysis . Samples will be obtained of
vadose zone soils every five feet until the borings have reached
design depth.
Each sample recovered, as well as representative drill cuttings,
will be screened for the release of volatile organic contaminants
with an organic vapor analyzer equipped with a photoionization
detector . The calibration of this instrument will be confirmed
by the field geologist each day prior to use . Upon sample
3
- MA:ENG : 9284MER/050691
