05/06/2003 08:09 FAX 209 9480621 4 PHS EHD
2004
k9 KLEINFELDER
the proposed scope of work. Kleinfelder will request that. the drilling subcontractor contact
Underground Service Alert to notify local utilities of our planned activities.
)Field Activities
Septic Tank Excavation
Kleinfelder proposes to direct an approved septic tank subcontractor for the excavation task. The
top of the septic tank will be uncovered and the condition of the tank will be assessed. If a
service port is determined. to be useable a single sludge sample will be obtained from inside the
tank for laboratory analysis.
Soil Borings
KleinfeIder proposes to advance a total of give pushprobes to investigate the subsurface soils near
the septic tank, leach line, and seepage pit. One of probes will be advanced on the western end
of the septic tank near the position of where the flange or transition from the tank to the leach
line to a maximum depth of approximately 15 feet below the ground surface (bgs). Two of soil
borings will be advanced along the leach line, spaced at equal intervals, to a maximum depth of
approximately 7 feet bgs. The final boring will be advanced parallel to the seepage pit to a total
depth of approximately 32 feet bgs.
A total of 4 soil samples will be collected from the septic tank area. The soil samples obtained
from near the septic tank will be collected at 4 feet bgs, 9 feet bgs, 12 feet bgs, and 15 feet bgs to
assess the soil condition adjacent and below the-bottom of the septic tank. The soil samples will
be assessed in the field.for lithology and stored for possible laboratory analysis.
A total of 6 soil samples will be collected from the borings advanced near the leach line_ The
soil samples will be collected at depths of 1, 3 and 7 feet bgs. The soil samples will be assessed
on site for lithology and stored for possible laboratory analysis.
A total of 8 soil samples will be collected from the boring advanced near the seepage pit_ The
soil samples will be collected at approximately 4 foot intervals as an approximate total depth of
32 feet for lithologic classification and stored for possible laboratory analysis_
The pushprobes will be continuously advanced in four-foot intervals using a pneumatically
driven steel probe. Soil samples will be obtained by inserting acetate liners into the probe. The
sample probe will be lowered to the desired sampling depth and driven into the soil. Soil
samples will be collected by cutting out the desired sample interval from the acetate liners and
sealing the ends with Teflon sheeting and tight fitting plastic caps. During the advancement of
the probes, soil samples will be collected for lithologic classification and qualitative field
screening with an organic vapor analyzer (OVA). The OVA measures ionizable compounds in
au in parts per million by volume (ppmv). Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS). ^The soil probes will be advanced using a truck mounted
geoprobe rig. The geoprobe utilizes a pneumatically driven stainless steel pushpzobe assembly
0200 1 PROP.ENV/ST03P162 Page 2 of 6
Copyright 2003,Kleinfeldcr,Inc. May 5,2003
