SITE SAFETY PLAN Project No. 9688
Husky Crane, Inc. July 10, 1999
II. Health Risk Analysis
A)Job Tasks to be Performed: In 1987 two underground storage tanks last known
to contain either gasoline or diesel fuel were removed by others. Soil samples
gathered in October 15, 1991 indicated the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons
which exceed local regulatory agency guidelines. The soil stockpile generated during
the excavation of the UST's containing 33,000 mg/Kg Oil and Grease was put back
in the excavation.
Although there have been various investigative efforts by others addressing the spread
of contamination, some significant data has not been developed. WIDE intends to
collect the required data to begin a complete soil and groundwater investigation of the
subject site. At this time one soil boring will be drilled and sampled in the
approximate center of the tank removal excavation. The boring will be sampled to
beyond the recent historical maximum depth to groundwater.
All soils removed during the boring installation will be placed in 55 gallon DOT
approved drums pending laboratory analyses. The drill cuttings will be sampled and
tested for both petroleum hydrocarbons and total lead (Pb). Once the laboratory test
results have been received the drummed soil cuttings will be sent to an approved
landfill for disposal.
All down hole equipment will be decontaminated prior to leaving the excavation area.
Water generated during this operation will be contained in 55 gallon drums. This
water will then be sampled and sent for disposal at an approved facility.
B) Summary of Potential Exposure Conditions, Pathways, Chemical Hazards
and Physical Hazards: See Table I (to be filled out by CHSO/HSO)
C) Chemical Hazard Data: See Table II (to be filled out by CHSO/HSO. All
excavation personnel will be required to wear hard hats, safety glasses and safety
boots. Also required will be for the excavation personnel to have C Class Chemical
protection equipment. Levels of contamination will be monitored by the site safety
officer.
D) Physical and Non-Chemical Hazards: See Table III (to be filled out by
CHSO/HSO)
E) Overall rating of Risk Due to Project Hazards: (To be filled out by
CHSO/HSO)
Serious Moderate Low
4
