north end of the former tank site, one at 14' bgl from the south
end, and the 3rd one at 6' bgl from the east side, adjacent to
the BJJ Co. property line. A composite sample was also taken
from the removed spoil pile, which was temporally stored on the
northwest side of the excavation. The samples from the north
side (HC-1N, ) and the south side (HC-2S, ) were analyzed for BTEX,
TPH--G, TPH-D, total lead, and priority polutants The sample
from the east side (HC-3E, ) was analyzed only for TEPH. The
composite sample from the spoil pile was tested for BTEX, TPH-G,
TEPH, andtotal l ead
Laboratory results revealed that BTEX & volatile organics were
below detection limits in all samples, but TPH—GG_,_TPH-D, motor
e er to
ozl , and total
PATE VI The removed spoil was returned to the hole pending
further work. _EXHIBIT—E includes copies of County EHD field
notes during the investigative work, and EXHIBIT G contains
copies of the lab results
On November 19 , 1991 , Geological Audit Services, Inc. submitted a
workplan to the County EHD for excavation & removal of
he
contaminated soil from the site; (refer to EXHIBITF_ ) That
workplan was not implemented.
• In June, 1992, Wm J. Hunter & Associates, (WJH, ) were retained
by Husky Crane to review & analyze the prior work, and prepare a
workplan for delineating-the vertical & lateral extent of the
contamination encountered during the work in October, 1991 . The
site of the removed UST' s is immediately adjacent to the Husky
Crane-BJJ Co property line as shown on PLATE VI As mentioned
earlier, an observation well has recently been placed on BJJ
property to monitor possible groundwater contamination caused by
a 3500 gallon fuel tank which is located beneath a building and
could not be removed. Soil borings beneath that tank showed
significant levels of contaminants, and a water sample taken from
the monitoring well in Dec e b o in
Laboratory analyses of water samples taken from that well in 1994
were be detection liflu-tri" indicating that the hydraulic gra-
dient may be to the west-southwest at that location. For that
reason, an additional monitoring well has been permitted on the
property southwest of the buried tank to verify that belief.
Besides the existing UST, there were two (2) above-ground gaso-
line tanks on the BJJ site about 50 feet northeasterly from the
location of the removed tanks on the Husky Crane property. Those
tanks were recently removed and replaced with UST' s in the same
location. Details of that work have not been reviewed
During investigative work conducted in 1991 at Husky Crane,
• contamination was noted on the wall of the excavation abutting
4
