lFelox,fair/NC.
1.2 Site Location and Layout
The Site is located at 234 West Main Street, Ripon, San Joaquin County, California. It is
located approximately '/4 mile southwest of State Highway 99. The Site is currently utilized as
B of A's Ripon Branch No. 0852. It consists of a two-story commercial office building with
paved, street-level parking, and landscaped areas on 14,418 square feet of land.
1.3 Background
In April 1997, Versar was retained by B of A to perform a Phase I ESA at the Site. The
adjoining and surrounding properties were also investigated to identify any off-site
environmental issues that have the potential to impact the Site. The Phase I ESA identified the
presence of former auto repair facilities on the Site.
In May 1997, Versar, on behalf of B of A, conducted a Phase 11 subsurface investigation
to further assess conditions from former facilities located at the Site reported in the Phase I ESA.
The Phase II investigation found low concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
(TPH-D) in groundwater near the west boundary of the Site.
B of A and Bank of Stockton requested additional assessment of Site soil and shallow
groundwater conditions with respect to the potential presence of solvents, which may have been
used during previous auto repair operations conducted at the Site in the 1940s as identified
during Versar's Phase II investigation.
2.0 SITE INVESTIGATION FIELD PROCEDURES AND RESULTS
This section describes the additional information obtained regarding groundwater flow
direction in the Site area, permitting, Site health and safety procedures, drilling procedures, soil
sampling and analytical results, and groundwater sampling and analytical results.
2.1 Groundwater Flow Direction in the Site Area
Versar contacted the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD)
for information on groundwater flow direction at SJCEHD case sites near the project Site. Mr.
Mike Infurnia of SJCEHD reported to Versar that groundwater flowed to the north/northwest
near Highway 99, several blocks northeast of the Site, and southwest at 334 Main Street, one
block from the Site. Based on this information, Versar considered the groundwater flow
direction at the Site to be variable.
-98/3622-501/Sep04'97 2
