• Well Installation Report - Former Unocal Service Station No 0187
October 21, 1997
Wellhead Survex
Following installation of the well, the casing elevations were surveyed by a California
licensed surveyor. Top of casing and vault box elevations were measured relative to MSL
Horizontal coordinates were obtained and are included with the surveyor's report These
data have been forwarded to MPDS for inclusion in their Quarterly Monitonng Reports.
A copy of the surveyor's report is included in Appendix D
RESULTS OF SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
Soil Conditions
Soil encountered in boring U-9 consists of sandy silt with interbedded strata of sand and
silty sand approximately 3 to 10 feet thick Fine sand was encountered from 40 to 56 feet
bgs, the total depth explored A fine gravel (up to 15%) was encountered in the upper 5
feet of this sand The boring was terminated witnout encountering any material that
appeared to act as a basal aquitard
Groundwater Conditions
Groundwater was encountered approximately 36 feet bgs in the well boring On August
25, 1997, groundwater was measured at 32 98 feet bgs in well U-9
CHEMICAL ANALYTICAL RESULTS
A total of three soil samples from the soil boring, one sample from the stockpiled drill
cuttings, and one groundwater sample were submitted for chemical analysis Soil and
groundwater chemical analyses were performed by Sequoia Analytical of Sacramento
(FLAP #1624), and Redwood City (ELAP #1210), California, respectively. Soil chemical
analytical data has been summarized in Table 1, and groundwater chemical analytical data
has been summarized in Table 2. Copies of the laboratory reports and chain-of-custody
forms are presented in Appendix E
Chemical Analytical Procedures
Soil samples were analyzed for TPHg and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (BTEX) by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 5030/8020 DHS Luft
Stockpile sample SS-I A-D was analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and total lead by EPA method
6010 Groundwater samples were analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and i-iethyl-tert-butyl-ether
(MTBE) by EPA Method 8015 Modified/8020
482721-2 5
