Between 2.5 to 4.25 gallons of ground water were removed from wells MW-I <br /> through MW-3 and 7 gallons were removed from well MW-4. Temperature, pH and conductivity <br /> were measured at regular intervals during purging using an Oakton water analyzer (Appendix B). <br /> Purged water was stored on-site in 55-gallon DOT-approved drums. <br /> ' 2.2.2. Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples <br /> I <br /> Ground water samples were collected from the purged wells using the dedicated, disposable <br /> ' polyethylene bailers. Each water sample was transferred into three 40-m1 volatile organic analysis <br /> (VOA)vials containing 0.5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and one 1-liter amber <br /> bottle without preservative. The samples were then labeled and placed in a chilled container for <br /> ' transport under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL)of Paramount, a <br /> California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified analytical laboratory.All water samples <br /> were analyzed for: <br /> Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in <br /> accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified and <br /> ' Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX), and the fuel additives methyl <br /> tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary butanol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary <br /> butyl ether(ETBE)and tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME)in accordance with EPA Method <br /> 8260 Modified. <br /> 3.0. FINDINGS <br /> ' The ground water elevation, gradient and flow direction were determined from the field data. <br /> Contaminant impact to ground water was assessed by field observations and laboratory analysis. <br /> 3.1. GROUND WATER DATA- GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION <br /> During the November 2005 sampling event,the depth to ground water ranged from 25.08 feet below <br /> casing grade(beg)to 25.63 feet beg.
