Holes will be
strategically placed in the walls for placement of rigging
anchors to assist in supporting and lifting the .sections as they
are removed. Each section will be removed by .use of: an excavator
and placed into the metal staging area for off-site removal
' . preparation.
As the initial' exterior wall is removed, OHM crews will advance eastward, removing both internal and external walls
simultaneously. Each removed 'section will be placed into the
metal staging area for preparation to remove off-site. Once the
' removed sections have been staged, they will be cleaned and cut
into manageable sized pieces as previously outlined in the roof
removal section. Heat coals removed during the internal cleaning'
phase will be processed in the metal staging area along with the .
removed sidewalls.
FLOOR REMOVAL
1 Once the sidewalls have been completely removed, OHM crews .
will remove the floor. The floor will 'becut i s
for initial removal from the excavation. Las powered cut-of
saws an or non-sparking shears will be used or cutting the tank
floor since conditions beneath the tank are unknown. Lifting
eyes will be placed at strategic locations for ease of lifting.
Leading edges of the cut sections will be lifted by excavator to
break any potential suction seals prior to actual removal.
Blocks will be placed beneath the lifted edges and the sections
will be removed by the excavator using nylon slings. Removed
sections will be staged into the metal processing area for
subsequent off-site disposal preparation.
Once the floor has been completely removed, OHM crews will
obtain soil samples at intervals of two (2) per removed
compartment. Samples will be analyzed for TPH, and BTXE, as
' required by the SJCEHD. Additional sampling and/or analyses will
be performed if required -by the involved regulatory agency(s) . A
comprehensive sampling plan is attached- to this work plan.
REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF TAN
ion-o removal and disposal preparation
Upon com I-et
activities, OHM crews will load the metal onto flat bed trucks
for transport and disposal. The metal will be transported to a
local metal recycling facility for final disposal. Final
' determination as to whether the metal is suitable as a non-
hazardous recycled material shall be the decision of SJCEHD+—)
i
 i
255
