A photoionization detector (PID)
will be used to define the extent of contamination of volatile
components. However, it is anticipated that the contamination
will have very few volatiles and visual observation will be used
to supplement the PID meter. Laboratory verification samples
will be collected and analyzed. when limits of contamination are thought to be reached.
Excavated soils will be laced onto vis
P queen in a soil
staging area for subsequent off--site removal. Soils will be
f;a loaded into hazardous waste licensed dump trucks by use of a
track loader for transport. Disposal of the soil will beat
PWI 's disposal facility located in Buttonwillow, California. All
- materials disposed of as hazardous waste will be shipped under
hazardous waste manifest.
i
BACKFILLING AND COMPACTION
Upon completion of tank removal and/or required remedial
activities, OHM will proceed with backfilling of the excavation.
Stockpiled clean soil. will be placed back into the excavation
initially. The remaining excavation will be backfilled with.
select import fill placed and compacted in 1-foot lifts.
Compaction will be provided to 90% relative compaction based
' upon visual and deflection yield measurements.
SITE RESTORATION AND DEMOBILIZATION
' Once removal of all staged metal and/or contaminated soils
have been completed, OHM crews will proceed with restoration of
the site. These activities will include removal of generated
debris, security fencing, and a rough grading of the site.
Affected utility lines will be restored to their original
condition and any temporary lines installed for the project will
' be removed.
Decontamination stations will be removed and staging area
pads will be graded to match the existing surroundings surface.
OvtLaDHM equipment will then be decontaminated and removed from the
site along with the office/decon trailer.
' Upon completion of restoration/demobilization activities, .
OHM will provide SJCEHD with a letter report describing the field
activities performed. This report will include all laboratory
analyses, disposal certifications, and bills of lading/hazardous
waste manifests associated with disposal of petroleum products,
contamination soils and/or tank cleaning rinsate.
' 256
