. 10 INTRODUCTION <br /> 1.1 Puraose <br /> NORCAL Waste Systems, Inc (NORCAL), the parent company of the site <br /> operator, Stockton Scavenger Association (SSA), retained The MARK Group, Inc <br /> (MARK) to complete a soil and groundwater investigation of the site and remediate <br /> previously-identified petroleum hydrocarbon impacts. This report summarizes the activities <br /> undertaken by MARK to remove the potential source of petroleum hydrocarbons to <br /> groundwater and to remediate the petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil. <br /> 12 Site Location <br /> The subject site is the SSA Facility located at 1240 Navy Drive, City of Stockton, <br /> San Joaquin County, California (Drawing 1-1). The SSA Facility consists of offices, a <br /> irefuse transfer station, vehicle maintenance facilities, and storage areas The general site <br /> configuration is shown in Drawing 1-2 <br /> 13 Site HIstoIY <br /> In May 1989, EMCON Associates (EMCON) installed three groundwater <br /> monitoring wells to provide baseline groundwater-quality information for the site At that <br /> time, EMCON reported that groundwater was approximately 23 feet below ground surface <br /> (bgs) and flowed in a northwesterly direction No volatile organic compounds or petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons were detected during monitoring <br /> In September 1992, two diesel fuel underground storage tanks (USTs) with <br /> capacities of 10,000 and 7,500 gallons, and one gasoline UST with a 7,500 gallon capacity, <br /> were excavated and removed from the site by Parker Environmental Services (Parker) <br /> • <br /> FASCLOSE 1 1-1 92-1177102 36 <br />
