O1 March 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0886
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to mobilization, the proposed well locations will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance up to five soil borings at the site for the collection of soil samples, grab
ground water samples and the potential installation of ground water monitoring wells, using a truck-
mounted,hollow-stem drill rig equipped with 8.25-inch hollow-stem augers to advance the borings
to approximately 75 feet bsg; the total depth of each well boring may vary according to
hydrogeologic/geologic conditions encountered during drilling. One of the borings will be advanced
between the former USTs for the vertical assessment of adsorbed contamination and collection of ,
a grab ground water sample,a second boring will be advanced twenty-five feet north of boring P-1; 1 t ` 4 a '-
a third boring will be advanced near the former dispensers.A fourth boring may be advanced twenty }
feet southeast of the former USTs, and a fifth boring may be advanced in the northeastern of the
former USTs on the property (Figure 2).
During the first phase of work, one soil boring will be advanced, sampled and completed as a ground
water monitoring well. Two additional soil borings will be completedground water monitoring .Lk_
wells if sampling of the first well indicates the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in ground water. J
Soil samples will be collected from each soil boring using a five-foot,three-inch wide core barrel. ; {dl
Soil samplesfrom the driven recovery will be collected at five-foot intervals using six-inch brass t1l to
sleeves. Soil samples for laboratory analysis will selected based on visual observations of petroleum
hydrocarbon impact, organic vapor meter (OVM) readings, changes in lithology, and/or at the
capillary fringe. The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California DHS-certified
laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline in accordance with EPA Methods
3550/8015 Modified; and U*4J
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene (BTEX) and di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), a o 7
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary-amyl methyl
ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), methanol, ethanol, ethylene dibromide (EDB) and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260.
Laboratory reports of soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report J
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
