k'9 KLEINFELDER
7 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of the subsurface assessment, Kleinfelder has the following conclusions and
recommendations:
1. Concentrations of Unidentified Extractable Hydrocarbons (UEHs) in the lubricating oil
hydrocarbon range (C„ to C40 detected) were detected in the soil from approximately the
upper 8 feet of both boring locations. The soil samples obtained from each boring
appeared to be old fill material. No hydrocarbons were detected in any of the other soil
samples from either soil boring. The concentrations detected were less than or equal to
62.7 mg/kg (parts per million).
These concentrations are very low, and are well below the frequently used TPH clean-up
level of 100 mg/kg. Furthermore the hydrocarbons detected are relatively immobile.
Therefore, it is Kleinfelder's experience that the concentrations detected are not
anticipated to present a significant risk to human health or the environment.
If the UEHs noted during this investigation are encountered during drilling for piers,
Kleinfelder recommends that the drilling returns be used without any further testing on
sites where they will not impact any surface water body. Additionally, Kleinfelder
recommends that the drilling returns not be used on existing or proposed residential
property.
If the UEHs noted during this investigation are encountered during excavation for the
underpass, Kleinfelder recommends that the excavated soil from the upper 8 feet be used
without any further testing on sites where they will not impact any surface water body.
Additionally, Kleinfelder recommends that the excavated soil from the upper 8 feet not
be used on existing or proposed residential property. All soil below a depth of 8 feet
should be used without restrictions.
This recommendation must be approved by PHS/EHD prior to implementation.
Otherwise the soils may possibly be disposed at an approved disposal facility.
20-3712-08.EO 1/2018R5 10 Page 13 of 16
© 1998, Kleinfelder, Inc.
