Mr. Vaughn • 8 12 May 1995
CONCLUSIONS:
STTC should offer a more complete justification for the choice of the test areas. That justification
should include: indication that the nature of the soils and depth to ground water are compatible
with the technologies being tested; a justification for the proposed screen lengths and a discussion
of why vertical wells instead of horizontal wells are being proposed; information showing either :
(1) that the proposed test site is representative of general conditions at the STTC terminals, or, (2)
that justifies making the proposed test area a target for early remedial action (e.g., high relative
levels of ground water or soil contamination). The consultant should submit a more detailed
discussion of procedures for the aquifer pumping test, including a discussion of conditions which
would lead to extending the duration of the constant-rate test for greater than 24 hours, and
specifications on the wells that will be used for observation wells. Also, the workplan should
specify what will be done with the extracted water from the ground water pumping tests.
GJW
