1051 McClellan Way
Stockton California 95207
June 14, 1994
Michael C.Donovan,Esq.
HOPFJNS &CARLEY
A Law Corporation
150 Almaden Blvd. Suite 1500
San Jose, CA 95113-2089
Dear Sir.
My husband and I live five houses away from Gettysburg Place, which is also the western boundary
of the Lincoln Shopping Center. The legal notice in the newspaper, regarding Case NO.CIV-S-91-760
DFL(GGH),Lincoln Village Properties,Ltd.vs.Norman Higgins,et al,states that all persons who have
an interest in,or may have potential liability resulting from, the soil and ground water
contamination that exists at and in the vicinity of the Lincoln Shopping Center in San Joaquin
County near Stockton should submit their comments to the court for consideration before July 18,
1994-
In 1988,1 believe, the summer I witnessed the wells being pumped and flushed down the sewer(and
one questions THAT decision, pumping contaminated well water back through the sewer system),I
phoned the Water Company and was given a rum-around Everyone was evasive but I persisted and
eventually learned that there was a problem with ogre of the wells,"but there is no need for concern,
this was not the well in current use' To take no chances we immediately started using bottled water
and continue to do so,an expense we have incurred due to the carelessness and lack of good
judgment by the defendants in this case.
We have not been adequately informed about the problem or what plans are being taken to remove
the contamination. At present we have no way of knowing whether or not w e might be personally
affected by this problem, that is,beyond our not feeling free to drink the water from our tap. We
would likethe defendants named above to be required to have tests conducted on the soil and water
on OUR property and in our neighborhood before any settlement is made.if
contamination by cleaning solvents is found, the clean-up procedure should be Ihdr responsibility.
What are the health concerns? We have not been told
Please acknowledge receipt of this letter.
Sincerely yours,
Carol van Bronkhorst Warren van Bronkhoorrst
