Levine-Fricke-Recon
ENGINEERS,HVDROGEOLOGISTS&APPLIED SCIENTISTS
A- and B-zone monitoring wells MW-112A through MW-114A and MW-206B through
MW-208B were installed at downgradient locations on Inglewood Avenue from August 3
through 21, as part of Plume Perimeter Investigation (Locations 8, 9, and 10 on Figure 1).
A-zone monitoring well MW-109A was installed in south Lincoln Center on September 1, as
part of the Source Area Investigation (Figure 1).
Phase I Interim Remedial Action (IRA) piezometers PZ-012A (1 and 2) through PZ-014A
(1 and 2) were installed on Pacific Avenue on August 12 through 16. PZ-005A-2 was
overdrilled and reinstalled on August 28.
Phase I IRA conveyance pipeline installation and treatment unit construction was ongoing
during the bimonthly period. Construction will be completed in November.
Phase II IRA soil vapor extraction (SVE) monitoring wells and extraction wells were installed
at Lincoln Center from September 28 through October 9.
• Shallow and deep soil-vapor samples were collected from borings SV-647 to SVE-649 near the
intersection of West Benjamin Holt Drive and Gettysburg Place on August 5 and 6, as part of
the Source Area Investigation (Figure 1). (Analytical results were forwarded to the RWQCB
and LPL.)
• Access negotiations continued with private property owners and their tenants for permission to
conduct remedial investigation activities on nearby properties.
Data Collection and Field Activities Anticipated for October and November 1998
The following data collection and field activities are planned at the Site during the next bimonthly
period or have commenced or been completed since the end of the bimonthly period:
Phase I IRA startup activities began in October. Three phases of groundwater extraction,
treatment, and disposal will be performed as part of the Treatment Performance and
Evaluation (TPE) to be conducted pursuant to the National Pollution Discharge Elimination
System and Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs). After the final TPE report is approved
by the RWQCB, the Phase I IRA groundwater extraction treatment system (GWETS) will be
fully operational. The GWETS prove-out will be conducted in November and December to
calibrate the groundwater flow model as described in the Phase I IRA Detailed Plan. Routine
operations and maintenance will commence in December.
The Phase II IRA SVE pilot test was conducted in October. The pilot test was conducted to
collect data to design and implement an appropriate IRA to address significant concentrations
of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) within the unsaturated zone.
bimonthly-Oct9B-04I 11:SRL 2
