J • 0 LFR • B-zone monitoring wells were installed on the Kawai property (MW-211B) and on Benjamin Holt near Harrisburg Place (MW-213B) from January 18 through 29, 1999, as part of the Plume Perimeter Investigation (Locations 20 and 21B, respectively, on Figure 1). • A magnetometer survey was conducted on January 19, 1999, at the site occupied by Michael's Arts and Crafts (previously owned by Safeway) in an attempt to locate a reportedly abandoned well. No objects were identified that could be associated with the former well. • Monitoring of the operation of the Phase I Interim Remedial Action (IRA) groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS), which includes routine sampling, automated measurement, and logging of the system flow rates and other operational parameters, continued throughout the bimonthly period. The treatment system operated continuously during the reporting quarter, except as noted below. • On November 30, 1998, a shutdown occurred when the electrical power to the treatment system fluctuated, resulting in low supplied voltage to the treatment system. System repairs and upgrades were made and the system was restarted on December 24, 1998. • On December 25, 1998, a shutdown occurred because of a voltage overload caused by a constriction on the shaft of the pump. The pump shaft was realigned, and the GWETS was restarted on December 27, 1998. • On December 30, 1998, the GWETS was off line from 10:30 to 13:10 because of a power outage. • Fluid levels in selected groundwater wells were measured for the purpose of assessing the effectiveness of groundwater extraction well capture on December 2 and 16, 1998, and on January 6, 13, and 27, 1999. • Access negotiations continued with Bank of America to obtain permission to conduct remedial investigation activities on their property located at 503 W. Benjamin Holt Drive. Data Collection and Field Activities Anticipated for February and March 1999 The following data collection and field activities are planned at the Site during the next bimonthly period, or have commenced or been completed since the end of the bimonthly period: • One B-zone monitoring well was installed on Gunton Way (MW-212B) from February 2 through 5, 1999, as part of the Plume Perimeter Investigation (Location 23 on Figure 1). • All newly installed Remedial Investigation CPT/PIPP borings and monitoring wells were surveyed on February 10, 1999. bimonthly-Feb99-041 I l.doc:blh 2
