14 June 2004
AGE-NC Project No 98-0540
2 2 COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
A water sample was collected from each purged well using the dedicated, dlsposable bailer Each
water sample was transferred into laboratory-supplied 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials
containing 0 5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative After collection, the samples were
properly labeled, placed In a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to a California
DHS-certified analytical laboratory
The samples were analyzed for the following constituents
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M, and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and the fuel additives methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl
tertiary butyl ether(ETBE),tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME), 1,2-dlbromoethane (EDB)
and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method SW846 8260B
23 OFF-SITE DOMESTIC WELL SAMPLING
As per the directive letter from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department dated
20 October 2003, four domestic wells down gradient from the contamination plume were tested on
20 November 2003 To ensure that formation water was being produced, water was allowed to run
out of the well for approximately 15 minutes, then ground water was poured directly into the 40-m1
VOA vials from a faucet at the well head After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed
In a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to a California DHS-certified analytical
laboratory for analysis for the chemical constituents listed In Section 2 2
Because chemicals of concern (COCs)were detected In two of the four domestic wells, these wells
were re-sampled on 04 December 2003, and again on 10 December 2003 All four domestic wells
were sampled once again during the quarterly monitoring event in March 2004
3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation and flow direction were deducted from field data while the hydrocarbon-
impact to ground water was assessed by laboratory analysis of the ground water samples
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
