Bentonite clay shall be free flowing, high swelling Wyoming sodium bentonite, specifically <br /> manufactured for use in the construction and sealing of municipal water wells, pellets or <br /> powder as required. <br /> 2.02 CEMENT GROUT <br /> A. The cement grout shall be composed of a mixture of not more than two parts sand by weight <br /> and one part of cement(per bag of cement) to 6 gallons of clean water weighing <br /> approximately 115 pounds per cubic foot. <br /> 2.03 CEMENT SEALING GROUT <br /> A. Cement grout shall be composed of a mixture of not more than two parts sand by weight and <br /> one part of cement to 6 gallons of clean water. The grout shall contain a minimum of ten (10) <br /> sacks of cement per yard and weigh approximately 130 pounds per cubic foot.A maximum of <br /> 2% by weight of bentonite. A slow-set retardant shall be added to delay initial set of the <br /> cement for at least one hour. <br /> 2.04 CONCRETE <br /> A. Concrete shall conform to the requirements of CalTrans Section 90 for Class A concrete, 3/4" <br /> maximum combined aggregate grading and shall have a minimum 28 day compressive <br /> strength of 3,000 PSI. <br /> PART 3- EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 PERMITS & LICENSES <br /> A All abandonment procedures shall be conducted in accordance with all applicable State and <br /> Local Ordinances or Codes. The Contractor shall take out and submit a State of California, <br /> Department of Water Resources Water Well Permit and a County Permit for the <br /> abandonment of the well.Copies of the permits shall be submitted to the Engineer at least 7 <br /> days prior to commencement of this work. The Contractor shall also be responsible for <br /> furnishing all tests, permits, and filing of the logs as required by law. <br /> 3.02 INSPECTION <br /> A. All abandonment procedures shall be performed in the presence of an inspector of the local <br /> Health Department as well as the Engineer. The Contractor shall provide 72 hours advanced <br /> notice prior to any abandonment operations. <br /> 3.03 PREPARATION <br /> A. Use of Site-The Contractor shall set up equipment in such a manner as to allow for <br /> convenient access to the site. Excavations shall be constructed so that they will create a <br /> minimum of hazard to surrounding properties. <br /> B. Well Log-The Contractor shall ascertain the characteristics of wells to be abandoned and <br /> shall furnish the Engineer with the minimum following information: <br /> 1. Well Type: (open bottom, gravel pack, etc.) <br /> 2. Total Depth: (depth) <br /> 3. Casing: (sizes and depths) <br /> 4. Surface seal: (type&depth) <br /> 02675-2 <br />
