The Contractor shall record the quantity of cement sealing grout placed in the well and <br /> shall submit a copy of the record to the Owners Representative. After placing the grout, <br /> the well shall remain undisturbed for a minimum of forty eight(48) hours. <br /> F. Removal of Casing: After sealing of the well has been completed, the Contractor shall <br /> excavate an area around the well and remove the casing and sanitary seal, if in place,to a <br /> depth of five(5)feet below grade. <br /> G. Backfilling Excavations: Upon completion of the casing removal, the excavation shall be <br /> backfilled in layers not to exceed six(6)inches and compacted to relative compaction of at <br /> least 90%. Re-grade the excavated area to the same level as the adjacent ground. <br /> 3.05 ABANDONMENT OF THE TEST WELL <br /> A. Sealing the well: <br /> 1. Ream out the borehole to the depth originally drilled. <br /> 2. A tremie pipe shall be installed to within 60 feet of the bottom of the well and cement <br /> sealing grout shall then be installed.The tremie pipe shall be gradually withdrawn as the <br /> grout rises in the casing until the grout reaches the surface. <br /> 3. Installation of cement shall be conducted as a single, continuous operation. <br /> 4. The cement seal shall extend to the top of the surface of the adjacent paving. <br /> 5. After placing the grout, <br /> the well shall remain undisturbed for a minimum of forty eight(48) hours. <br /> 3.06 TESTING <br /> A. General Requirements <br /> 1. Testing of all work shall be in accordance with the requirements of Division 1.Testing will <br /> be performed so as to least encumber the performance of work. <br /> 2. The Owner will pay for one series of tests only, on the area being evaluated. Contractor <br /> shall pay costs of additional testing required due to improper performance of work. <br /> 3. When work of this section or portions of work are completed, notify the Engineer to <br /> schedule the testing laboratory to perform the appropriate tests.All testing shall be done <br /> in the presence of the Engineer and the Contractor shall not proceed with additional <br /> portions of work until test results have been verified. <br /> 4. If, during progress of work, tests indicate that the work or materials do not meet specified <br /> requirements, the defective work shall be remedied, removed, replaced and re-tested at <br /> no cost to the Owner. <br /> B. Compaction Testing <br /> 1. Relative compaction of the soils and aggregate base shall be tested by the Owner's Soils <br /> Engineer in accordance with California Test Method No.231, Nuclear Gage. <br /> 2. Degree of Compaction: The degree of compaction shall be expressed as a % ratio of the <br /> in-place dry density of the compacted fill material to the maximum dry density of the same <br /> material as determined by ASTM D1557, <br /> 3. Compacted fills shall be tested prior to proceeding with placement of surface materials. <br /> 4. If, during progress of work,tests indicate that compacted materials do not meet specified <br /> requirements, the defective work shall be removed and replaced, re-compacted and re- <br /> tested at no cost to the Owner. <br /> 5. Upon completion of this portion of the work, deliver to the Engineer a written report form <br /> the Owner's Soils Engineer stating that the work performed hereunder complies with the <br /> requirements of the plans and specifications. The report shall be prepared in accordance <br /> with the requirements of Division 1. <br /> 02675-4 <br />
