A Mr. Thomas Pinkos •
September 15, 2004
Page 2
On September 10, 2004, ENSR was contacted by Mr. Barton and requested to submit recent
soil and groundwater water samples for analysis of Cam 17 Metals, cations and anions to a
California certified lab. Mr. Barton stated, "the requested analysis would help to determine if the
soil is buffered".
ENSR submitted one soil sample and one groundwater sample for analysis to a California
certified laboratory on September 14, 2004. Upon receipt of analytical results, ENSR will
provide copies of the analytical reports to the Board prior to October 1, 2004 and will include the
results of the requested analyses in the Updated Site Conceptual Model, Monitoring and
Remediation Status Report, Fourth Quarter 2004 scheduled to be submitted to your agency by
January 15, 2004.
Included in the Updated Site Conceptual Model, Monitoring, and Remediation Status Report,
Fourth Quarter 2004 will be the conclusion on the most appropriate site remediation
methodology to follow. This conclusion will be developed jointly with Jim Barton, Stone Bros. &
Assoc. and GHH Engineering and evaluate if the soil and groundwater conditions at the site
favor the use of the in situ chemical oxidation with ozone or Fenton's reagent or in situ bio-
stimulation through the addition of ozone or hydrogen peroxide and nutrients to remediate the
site.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (805) 781-2493.
Sincerely,
/John Frary
Project Manager
cc: Ms. Jill Tracy, Esq., Unocal, Brea
Mr. Jim Barton, RWQCB - Central Valley Region
Mr. Mike Infurna, San Joaquin County - Environmental Health Division
Mr. Mark Owens, SWRCB - UST Cleanup Fund
Mr. Ben Heningburg, ENSR International, Sacramento
Mr. John Warren, ENSR International, Sacramento
Mr. Gary Hall, GHH Engineering
Mr. Jay Allen, Stone Bros. &Associates
Real Estate and Remediation 276 Tank Farm Road San Luis Obispo,CA 93406 w .unooal.com
