WGR
Southwest, Inc.
drainage ditch, referred to as the South Ditch, begins just west of the southwest site corner and
directs runoff westward to a storm water retention pond west of Navy Drive approximately 0.5
mile west of the site. To the southeast there is a triangular-shaped vacant weedy parcel that
extends along the south side of the property. The Port-owned Stockton Public Belt Line
Railroad spur is located to the east. The Atchison Topeka(Burlington Northern, on some maps)
and Santa Fe Railroad line extends in an east-west direction approximately 100 feet south of the
property at the top of a raised berm.
3.0 GEOLOGY/HYDROGEOLOGY
The Port is located on the delta of the San Joaquin River near the center of the Great Valley
Geomorphic Province of California. The Great Valley Province lies between the Sierra Nevada
Province on the east and the Coast Ranges Province on the west. Approximately 30 miles west
of the site, the San Joaquin River joins the Sacramento River and empties into the Suisun Bay.
Continuing westward, waters of the Suisun Bay pass through the Carquinez Straight and into
San Pablo Bay north of San Francisco Bay.
The San Joaquin River passes within about 0.5 mile of site on the southwest, and large sewage
disposal ponds are located just west of this portion of the river. The Stockton deep water
channel lies about 0.75 mile north of site. The subject property is located within a 500-year
FEMA flood zone area, and land classified as national wetland inventory is present just over
0.5 mile to the southwest and west. A small wetland area is located about 0.5 mile southeast
of the site. Groundwater flow direction in the area is variable due to influences produced by the
proximity of the deep water channel on the north and the San Joaquin River on the west and
southwest.
The United States Geological Survey(USGS) and State databases located one water well within
a mile of the subject property. This well is a USGS well, completed to a depth of 114 feet in
flood plain deposits and is located approximately 0.75 mile west-northwest of the site. The
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates the depth to the water table in the
site area is greater than 6 feet, consistent with other references. A monitoring well installed on a
property approximately 850 feet north of the subject site encountered groundwater at a depth of
12 feet below grade.
704 PRT 10 Page 3 March 16. 2007
