3 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Western Oil & Spreading Inc proposes the following tasks leading to closure of the <br /> contaminated site <br /> (1) Characterize contaminated soil zone <br /> (2) Characterize the shallow groundwater zone and any contamination <br /> (3) Evaluate applicability and necessity of various remediation schemes <br /> (4) Carry out remediation or leave in place options <br /> (5) Apply for and achieve closure status of the site <br /> 31 Charactenze Soil Contamination Zone <br /> ' Exploratory borings utilizing either a continuous flight , hollow-stem auger drilling equipment <br /> or Direct Push Technology (DPT) such as a Geoprobe& may be utilized Both methods are <br /> briefly described in Appendix B, EXPLORATORY BORING AND WELL INSTALLATION <br /> PROCEDURES Cost, speed and flexibility in the field favor DPT A Model 5600 <br /> Geoprobe&, Heavy Truck Mounted Probe is planned to be employed This size and type of <br /> unit has achieved penetration to depths greater than 100 feet in similar formations The <br /> groundwater surface is thought to be 50 to 60 feet bgs <br /> 31.1 Site Specific Soil Sampling <br /> Site specific boring directions are also included in Appendix B Location of initial boreholes <br /> 1 is described in the Figure 3, Site Plan Hopefully, three DPT borings will allow definition of <br /> the petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated mass limits In the event the three are not <br /> isufficient, additional borings will be placed at the discretion of the Protect Manager or <br /> delegated responsible professional In the event additional holes are required beyond the <br /> site's boundary (parcel boundary), additional holes may be bored with consent of the <br /> receiving landowner and with well drilling permitting from San Joaquin County PHS/EHD <br /> ' LEthological recording, leading to a presentation depicting the cross section of each hole, <br /> will be performed as sampling is performed <br /> 3-1 <br />
