. 1.0 INTRODUCTION
The project site is located at 3931 Newton Road, in an industrial area on the northeast outskirts of
Stockton near U S Highway 99 The location of the site is shown in Figure 1, and the site facilities
are shown in Figure 2 Originally agricultural property, the site was developed as a commercial
truck terminal in 1973 The property occupies an area of about 3 5 acres
Topography in the area is generally flat, although the project site is elevated several feet above the
adjacent parcels There is a maintenance building and office fronting Newton Road, with a large,
unpaved storage yard/parkLng lot in the rear A diesel and gasoline fueling facility, consisting of two
underground storage tanks (UST's), was formerly present on the south side of the storage yard
(Figure 2) This facility was removed in 1989 and replaced with an above-ground fueling facility,
which is located to the west of the abandoned facility
Upgradient Environmental Consultants assumed the responsibility for assessment and morutoring
of groundwater contamination at the facility in September, 1994
2.0 PROCEDURES
Groundwater monitoring took place on June 8 The wells were opened and allowed to equalize with
atmospheric pressure before water depths were measured The depth to groundwater in each well
was measured with a Solmst water level meter and the measurements were recorded on the Well
Monitor Report(Appendix A) The truck parking area has been resurfaced with gravel since the site
was monitored in December, and well GT-2 could not be located under the gravel The depth to
groundwater was measured in GT-9, but that well was not sampled because the neighboring
property owner was present for only a short time
After the water depth was measured, a Grundfos Readr-flo 2 groundwater pump was used to purge
8 to 12 gallons from GT-1, GT-3, and GT-6 Conductivity and temperature were measured during
purging at 2-gallon intervals, but the pH meter failed and could not be repaired The readings were
recorded on the Well Morutor Report The conductivity meter also failed during purging of GT-6,
and therefore none of the other wells were purged prior to sampling The purged water was stored
in 55-gallon drums near GT-1
Water samples were collected in disposable plastic bailers and placed 1-liter amber bottles and 40-
ml vials The samples were placed in a plastic cooler, iced, and shipped to McCampbell Analytical
in Pacheco, California for analysis All samples were analyzed for TPH-diesel, TPH-gasoline, and
BTEX The sample from GT-10 was also analyzed for gasoline oxygenates
2
