Brent
California Regional Water
Quality Control Board
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, California 95827-3098
Dear Mr. Brent:
Exxon' s consultants have completed the Phase II investigation at the
referenced location. Based on the soil and water analyses from all the
monitoring wells, the groundwater gradient, the stratigraphy of the area and
past hydrological events, the data indicates that there are probably two
plumes of contamination on the former Exxon site. The first plume originates
from the area of the Shell tankfield, extends under North Pershing and across
the Northwest corner of the former site. The second plume originates in the
area of the old Exxon tankfield and extends northeast past MW6. These two
plumes apparently co-mingle somewhere northeast of MW2.
Based on this new data, Exxon intends to work with the property owner and
perform the following activities:
1 ) Perform a pump test to determine the optimum design of a remediation
system which will address the second plume.
2) Obtain all the necessary permits to install and operate a remediation
system.
3) Install a system which will not hinder the future proposed use of the
property when it is operating.
In the interest of the property owner, Exxon does not propose to operate the
system until a similar system is installed on the Shell property to remediate
the first plume and stop further migration of contamination down gradient,
under North Pershing and onto the former site.
A DIVISION OF EXXON CORPORATION
