(11/87)
F. Sample Shipment
* Describe how samples will be packaged and shipped. Include the method of
shipment and the time schedule of shipment relative to sample collection.
Do not ship samples as baggage on passenger planes. It is against Department
of Transportation (D0T) regulations.
* If medium concentration samples (>loppm) will be shipped, special packaging
and D0T labelling requirements must be described.
* All sample shipments must be reported to the RSCC within one day after shipment.
Friday shipment/Saturday laboratory receipt of samples must be coordinated
with the RSCC by noon on Friday.
* Appendix E includes analytical and CLP contract hold times for RAS and cannon
SAS parameters. These hold times should be considered when developing sampling
and shipping schedules. (See also Appendix D. )
G. Sample Docunentation
* Address the use of all paperwork including field notebooks, Organic and
Inorganic Traffic Reports, SAS Packing Lists, and Chain of Custody forms and
seals in the sampling effort (see Appendix F) . Include instructions on
properly filling out the paperwork. Describe sample bottle labeling.
* At the end of each sampling event the samplers will be required to submit to
the Region 9 RSCC a summary of all lab QA/QC samples collected during the
sampling event, and a summary of any sampling problems encountered in the
field that might affect the lab analyses or data quality. A form for this
reportwill be provided by the RSCC. For long term projects, this report
will be required monthly.
H. Quality Assurance
1. Replicates
* Replicates are a check on the laboratory and field procedures. Collect 1
sample per week or 10%/parameter/matrix/lab/site whichever is greater.
Replicates should be from sampling points which are known or suspected to
be contaminated.
* Replicates should be for samples which have a complete parameter suite.
Identify the sampling point, if known, whic7 will have replicate samples.
The replicate should be collected, numbered, packaged, and sealed in the
same manner as the other samples.
* Describe hoer replicates will be collected. The collection procedure
must insure that the replicates are hanogeneous, comparable samples.
* Replicate samples must be identified on the Region 9 copy of the sample
paperwork, not the lab copy. The sample is a blind replicate for the lab.
