Box 944212
Sacramento, California 942=1-1-2120
Subject: Status of King Buck VINIC-6AG Soil Vapor Extraction -Unit
CHAPIN BROS., INC.
1766 Monte Diablo venue, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Jacobo:
The following is an update of the soil vapor extraction (SVE) unit provided to the above referenced
site by the Under Ground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund (USTCF). Based upon our conversations with
King-Buck Technology, the manufacturer, and observations at the site, we have the following
comments:
• The Kira-Buck/1-lasstech N,li\,IC-6AG catalytic oxidation-soil vapor extraction(SVE)system
at the site has been experiencing poor and undependable operation. It is likely that one or
more of the process control components are dama(led or,,worn-out past their life expectancy.
• It is our tmdcrstanding that the extraction system was operated for approximately t,.yo years
in the mid 11.90s and then was in storaoze and inactive until April 1997. The unit was reported
to have satisfactory operation during its initial mobilization. However, no information was
available concerning the required lona term storage and maintenance of the unit between
mobilizations.
• Currently, the Tuthill pneumatic blower on the unit, used to extract soil vapor, has damaged
internal seals. These damaged seals have caused lubricating oil to exit the blower and enter
into the SVE burner. AGE has been in contact witll the manufacturer to determine the
consequences of the blower seal failure. The introduction of oil into the SVE burner is out
of the operating parameters of the unit and is contributing to the failure in operation of the
SVE unit.
• King-Buck recommends that the blower undergo service at an authorized factory service
1803 West March Lane,Suite A,Stockton,California 95207
Telephone(209)956-0264 FAX(209)956-0700
