Control the Spill: <br />• Turn off the supply valve. <br />• Shut off the dispenser, emergency control <br />switch, or circuit breaker. <br />• Plug the drum or tank with putty, wooden <br />dowel, or piece of wood. <br />• Turn the drum upright. <br />• Turn off power or activate the emergency <br />shutoff device. <br />2. Contact/Communicate: <br />• Contact your supervisor immediately. <br />• Obtain Help — Contact local emergency <br />response organizations posted in the Spill <br />Response Booklet or XL Specialty Claims <br />Administrators (formerly ECS Claims <br />Administrators) ON-CALL Service, 24 hours <br />a day/7 days a week/365 days per year at <br />800-432-2481 <br />4. Clean-up the Spill: <br />• Approach the Scene Cautiously — Do not <br />rush in to assist or take action beyond your <br />level of training. <br />• Identify the Hazards — Refer to MSDSs, <br />placards, etc. <br />• Secure the Area — Keep untrained persons <br />and the public away from the spill area. <br />Keep others from smoking or driving through <br />the spill area. <br />• Remove boom/pad from spill kits and apply <br />to the spill area to absorb leaking or spilled <br />materials. <br />Remember to get assistance. Some clean-up activities <br />must be approved by a regulatory agency prior to <br />performing. <br />Spill clean-up materials must be managed in <br />accordance with federal, state, and Ryder <br />requirements. All fueling locations must have an Emergency Spill <br />Response Plan (ESRP) on-site. Before a spill <br />occurs, find it, review it, and ask questions if you <br />don't understand it. For more information, <br />including how to create an ESRP or where to buy <br />one pre -assembled, refer to the ESRP section later <br />in this Training Course. <br />
