Ryder Environmental Awareness
2. All fueling locations with aboveground storage
tanks larger than 1,320L gallons are required to have
a Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure Plan
(SPCC) on-site. Find out where the SPCC Plan is
filed or kept, know what it looks like, and find out
whom you need to contact if someone asks you to
produce the SPCC Plan. At some point, someone
will ask you for the SPCC Plan. A review and
discussion of SPCC Plans should be part of any
spill response training program at your site.
3. All fueling locations are required to have a Spill
Response Booklet on-site. In addition to one
on-site copy, copies should also be kept with the
Emergency Coordinator and the Environmental
Coordinator so that if he/she is contacted at home
after hours or on the weekend, they have a .
resource to refer to. More information on this
booklet and its contents is provided later in this
Training Course.
4. Forms/Resources:
The Emergency Spill Response Telephone Guide
(Form No. ES -19) contains contact phone
numbers and outside spill clean-up resources and
information. It must be posted at the facility near
the phone(s). This environmental form identifies
all the people you need to contact when a spill
occurs. Make sure it is.posted, it is current, and
that all employees know about it. More
information on the Emergency Spill Response
Plan (ESRP) is provided later in this Training
Course (e.g., how to create one or buy one
pre -assembled).
Report of Significant Environmental Incident
(Form No. ES -5) contains necessary information
required to complete internal notification.
Hazardous Material/Fuel Spill Authorization Notice
(Form No. ES -6) can be used to obtain customer
authorization when responding to a spill involving
customer's insurance.
Where and When to Report .Spills is a summary of
state spill notification numbers, reportable quantities.,
and reporting time deadlines. This summary is avail-
able in Ryder's Environmental Policy & Control
Manual Procedure No. 6. 1, Exhibit F.
Emergency Spill Response Plans (ESRP)
Every facility with gas, diesel, or chemicals stored in
tanks or tankers, must keep an up-to-date Emergency
Spill Response 84an. Federal law requires it. The
Plan contents include a step-by-step description of
procedures to follow in the event of a spill at the
facility or from a vehicle.
All employees must be trained on the Plan's contents,
AND all spills must be managed in accordance with the
procedures described in the Plan.
A copy of the ESRP is also required to be kept in all
service vehicles.
Ryder has two options available for getting an ESRP at
your site. Review Options One and Two, decide what
works best for your location, and then take appropriate
steps to obtain the ESRP.
Option One
Section 6 of Ryder's Environmental Policy & Control
Manual (EPC) contains all the information necessary
to comply with ESRP requirerfents. This information
in the EPC manual. including all instructions, forms,
and checklists must be photocopied and assembled
into a booklet. The booklet must be labeled
"Emergency Spill Response Plan" or "Spill Response
Booklet."
Perform the following activities to set up the
(Emergency Spill Response Plan) ESRP using Option
One:
• Print or copy all spill procedures in section 6
of the manual (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4).
• Make enough photocopies so that each
facility has its own Plan.
