•
I. EIA RS -232 INTERFACES.
EIA RS -232 Interface Module provides a 25 -pin female
' D -connector for data transmission—direct via a null mo-
dem cable or through an external modem and over phone
lines—to a computer, point-of-sale terminal or printing
device. The RS -232 Interface Module with Auxilliary Port
provides an additional 25 -pin female D -connector.
1. Cable Runs.
An RS -232 Interface and RS -232 Interface with
Auxilliary Port can be used for direct local attachment
of terminals if the cable run is no more than 60 feet. In
practice, runs longer than 60 feet have performed
satisfactorily. However, since the RS -232 specification
restricts operation to up to 50 feet, direct -connect cable
runs greater than 50 feet are not warranted for proper
operation.
CAUTION: RS -232 CABLE RUNS LONGER THAN
50 FEET COULD RESULT IN DATA ERRORS, OR
COMPONENT DAMAGE OR BOTH.
2. Peripheral Equipment Requirements.
Any peripheral equipment connected to an RS -232
serial port must meet the following criteria:
a. Peripheral equipment must be UL listed.
b. The equipment must have an EIA standard RS -232C
or RS -232D communications protocol.
c. The equipment must NOT be installed over or in a
• hazardous location.
J. SITEFAX FAX/MODEM AND INTERNAL
MODEM INTERFACES.
The SiteFax Fax/Modem and the 300/1200 -baud Internal
Interface Modem provide snap -in jacks for direct data
transmission over phone lines.
1. For connection to telephone equipment subject to local
regulations
2. Maximum short circuit current: 0 amps
3. Maximum open circuit voltage: 0 volts
SECTION 5. CAPACITANCE PROBE
INSTALLATION
10 WARNING: TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND
OTHERS FROM BEING STRUCK BY VE-
HICLES DURING WORK, BLOCK OFF YOUR
WORK AREA DURING INSTALLATION AND
SERVICE.
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK
WHICH COULD KILL YOU, BE SURE AC
POWER TO THE TLS -350 MONITOR IS OFF
DURING INSTALLATION.
A. TANK DIAMETER MEASUREMENT.
. Perform the following procedure to ensure that probes are
installed in the proper tanks (see Figure 21, "Tank Diam-
eter Measurement"). Inaccurate readings will result if
probes are not the correct length for the given tank
diameter.
Site Preparation an Installation Instructions
TLS-qPUST Monitoring System
1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the tank to the
top of the probe riser pipe (a).
2. Measure the distance from the bottom of the probe riser
pipe to the top of the probe riser pipe (b).
3. Subtract (b) from (a) to determine the correct tank
diameter (c).
4. Make sure the probe length (Dimension "A", Figure 22
"Capacitance Probe Dimensions" is correct for the tank
diameter.
PROBE RISER PIPE
TANK
b
a
a-b=c
Figure 21. Capacitance Probe Dimensions.
B. RISER PIPE CAP PREPARATION.
The riser pipe cap must have a 3/8" tapped hole for
passage of probe wires. Cap kits with pre -drilled holes for
a standard 4" riser pipe are available from Veeder-Root.
Order Kit Number 312020-952, one for each probe.
If a kit has not been ordered, perform the following:
WARNING: DO NOT PERFORM DRILLING
AND TAPPING PROCEDURES INA HAZARD-
OUS AREA. DRILLING AND TAPPING CAN
CAUSE SPARKS AND IGNITE VOLATILE
FUMES AND LIQUIDS FOUND IN A CLASS I,
GROUP D HAZARDOUS LOCATION. FAILURE
TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN DEATH, SE-
RIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY
LOSS AND EQUIPMENT DAMAGE.
21
