8. Seal wire nuts with epoxy sealant furnished with each
probe, using one bag for two wire nut connections. (See
Figure 26, "Epoxy Sealant for Two -Wire Connections.")
Figure 26. Epoxy Sealant for Two -Wire Connections.
CAUTION: IF MORE THAN TWO WIRE NUT
CONNECTIONS SHARE AN EPDXY SEALANT
BAG, THE CONNECTIONS WILL NOT BE PROP-
ERLY SEALED. IMPROPER SEALING OF THE
CONNECTIONS WILL RESULT IN INACCURATE
PROBE READINGS AND POSSIBLY FALSE
ALARM CONDITIONS.
WARNING: EPDXY SEALANT MAY BE IRRI-
TATING TO EYES AND SKIN. MAY CAUSE
SKIN SENSITIZATION IN SUSCEPTIBLE IN-
DIVIDUALS. MAY BE ABSORBED THROUGH
THE SKIN. EPDXY SEALANT CONTAINS EP-
OXY RESIN AND VINYL CYCLOHEXENE DI-
OXIDE. VINYL CYCLOHEXENE DIOXIDE HAS
CAUSED SKIN CANCER IN ANIMAL TESTS.
PRECAUTIONS: AVOID EYE AND SKIN CON-
TACT. WEAR IMPERVIOUS GLOVES AND
SAFETY GLASSES. USE ONLY IN WELL VEN-
TILATED AREAS.
9. Tighten the cable bushing nuts on the probe riser cap
and junction box to ensure a water -tight seal at the
probe cable entry.
10. Secure the riser locking cap to the top of the riser pipe.
A padlock may be installed for added security.
SECTION 6. MAGNETOSTRICTIVE PROBE
INSTALLATION
Ift WARNING: TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND
OTHERS FROM BEING STRUCK BY VE-
HICLES DURING WORK, BLOCK OFF YOUR
WORK AREA DURING INSTALLATION AND
SERVICE.
Site Preparation anstallation Instructions T
TLS -3 ST Monitoring System
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK
WHICH COULD KILL YOU, BE SURE AC
POWER TO THE TLS MONITOR IS OFF DUR-
ING INSTALLATION.
ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANK APPLICA-
TIONS: Installation Kit No. 312020-984 is required
for magnetostrictictive probe installation in
aboveground storage tanks. The kit includes:
1- Adaptor, Part No. 329972-001
1- 5 -foot length of 3/8" Flex Conduit, Part
No. 576008-294
2 - 3/8" Straight Liquidtight Connectors,
Part No. 576008-295
eft WARNING: BE CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN
10 YOUR BALANCE WHEN WORKING ON
TOP OF THE STORAGE TANK. TANK
SURFACE IS VERY SLIPPERY.
16 CAUTION: IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT
THE RISER PIPE BE A LIGHT COLOR
TO REFLECT SUNLIGHT AND TO MAIN-
TAIN A REASONABLE TEMPERATURE.
PROBE MAY NOT FUNCTION PROP-
ERLY IF THE TEMPERATURE IN THE
RISER IS ABOVE 700.
A. TANK DIAMETER MEASUREMENT.
Perform the following procedure to ensure that probes are
installed in the proper tanks (see Figure 27, "Tank Diam-
eter Measurement"). Inaccurate readings will result if
probes are not the correct length for the given tank
diameter.
1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the tank to the
top of the probe riser pipe (a).
2. Measure the distance from the bottom of the probe riser
pipe to the top of the probe riser pipe (b).
3. Subtract (b) from (a) to determine the correct tank
diameter (c).
4. Make sure the probe length (see Figure 28, "Magnetos-
trictive Probe Dimensions") is correct for the tank
diameter.
PROBE RISER PIPE
TANK
b
a
C a -b -c
Figure 27.
