2.3 Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling
li
Eight soil borings were drilled on April 27 and 28, 1994. Three of the borings were
completed as 2-inch groundwater monitoring wells. A total of 14 soil samples were analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline aild diesel) and volatile aromatics
(BTE&X). TPH as gasoline was detected in ten of the samples at concentrations to 3,800
mg/kg (parts per million, 'ppm). TPH as diesel was detectedin twelve of the samples at
concentrations to 9,000 ppm. Concentrations of benzene, itoluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene
were detected in the soil samples as well. '
I
Groundwater samples have been collected in May,August[and November 1994.The samples
were analyzed for TPH as gasoline, TPH as diesel and B IE&X. TPH as gasoline have been
detected in all three monitoring wells at concentrations to 14,1000 ppm. TPH as diesel has
been detected in all three wells at concentrations to 12,000 ppm. BTE&X have consistently
been detected in MW-2.
i'
2.4 Groundwater Depth and Gradient Direction
I
The depth to groundwater at the site is approximately 20 feet. The groundwater gradient
has been very shallow, approximately 0.0004 ft/ft. The flow direction at the site fluctuates
between northwest and southwest.
3.0 SCOPE OF NVORKi
In a letter dated October 19, 1994, the PHS/EHD requested "a work plan to install
additional monitoring wells and soil borings to deterinine the extent of the soil and
groundwater contamination plumes". Therefore, GeoAudit proposes to install two additional
monitoring wells and two or three soil borings at the sited One well will be located at the
northwest corner of the property. A second well will be located immediately south of the
former diesel tank pit near borings B7 and B8.
If field screening of soil samples collected from the proposed monitoring well near the
northwest corner of the RFS property does not indicate the presence of organic vapors, then
an additional soil boring will be drilled approximately 30{feet west of MW-2 to determine
the lateral extent of impacted soil in this area.
Two soil borings will be drilled on the Jimco Truck Stop property. One of the borings will
be drilled north of MW-2, near the southwest corner of the'Jimco building. A second boring
will be placed north of MW-3, near Jimco's abovegroun, storage tanks. A groundwater
sample will be collected from each boring using a hydro punc} (or similar method). The
proposed locations of the wells and soil borings are .illust ated in Figure 2.
i
I
cm6Ca1 A.J-x,lkN-
RI2 I
PON FARM URNICe 1 WP(2-9$&r,91-R3-y13-OQ
I
