L
a
The site is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of the frontage road of
Highway 99N and Foppiano Lane. It is approximately 7 miles northeast of the Stockton
civic center, and 9 miles south of Lodi. The Mokelumne aqueduct is about 2,000 feet to
the west; the Calaveras river 7,000 feet to the south; and Mosher Creek 7,000 feet to the
north. The mainline of the Union Pacific-Santa Fe RR is about 6,000 feet to the west. The
area is primarily agricultural; the nearest residence is over 250 feet to the north. Refer to
PLATES I & IT for details.
GEOLOGIC & GEOMORPHIC PROVINCE:
The site is located near the southern end of the Sacramento Basin, which is part of the
northern portion of the geomorphic province referred to as the Great Valley of California.
This large basin, which consists of over 20,000 feet of sediments, extends from Red Bluff
on the north to the Transverse Ranges on the south. The sediments were derived
primarily from erosion of the Sierra Nevada Batholith to the east, and have been
periodically reworked and redeposited by the many rivers and streams in the area.
The"',topography is very flat, sloping to the southwest at about 7.5'/mile. Based upon
USGS topographic maps, surface elevation is about 32' msl datum. PLATE III is a
portion of a USGS quadrangle sheet which shows features in the area.
SOIL PROFILE:
Based upon published reports, the soils in the area are identified as Stockton Adobe Clay.
It.is;dark grey to brown to tan in color with layers of hardpan in the subsoil. These soils
arede'veloped on older plains or terraces, and are underlain by unconsolidated material.
The Storie index is 28. -
DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER:
,Bed upon the latest maps prepared by the San Joaquin County Flood Control District
(Fall;' 1996) groundwater is about 80' below ground level in this area. Due to the heavy
rains in 1996 & 1997, the water table may have risen several feet since that time. As part
of this project, the static water level will be measured when the well on the property is
examined.
LOCATION OF NEARBY WELLS:
As mentioned above, there is a domestic water well on the east edge of the property about
40 feet from the end of Tank #3 - refer to PLATE IV for details. There are no other
private wells within 250' of the site of the removed tanks. The locations of all domestic,
2
