The date the tanks were installed by the previous owner is not known, but is
estimated to have been 20-25 years ago. The present owners acquired the property in
1979; the tanks were taken out of service in January, 1998. It is estimated that 700,000
gallons of gasoline was purchased during that period. Based upon limited data, fuel loss is
-estimated to be less than 1,000 gallons from 1979 to 1998.
SUMMARY OF LATEST WORK DONE AT THE SITE:
On January 28, 1998, Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. removed three (3) 8,000 gallon gasoline
UST's, product lines and dispenser pumps. Soil samples were taken from beneath the
ends of each tank, the pump island, and the spoil piles.. The excavation measured
approximately 25' x 30' x 15' deep. After taking soil samples, black plastic was spread in
the hole, and the removed spoil returned to the excavation. It is still open, and fenced off.
The locations of those samples are shown on PLATE IV, along with the results of the
laboratory analyses. Copies of the laboratory reports and custody chains are included as
EXHIBIT C.
PROPOSED WORKPLAN FOR SOIL & GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION:
The San Joaquin County EHD is requiring the following investigative work - it is
separated into three stages as are summarized below. The work may not be done in the
order listed. A general health & safety plan is included as EXHIBIT D. A site-specific
plan will be submitted by the firm performing the work,
Project 1 -Domestic water well.
1. Deactivate well.
2. Determine water depth. Obtain water sample by use of small diameter flexible bailer
run through test nipple on well head. Water sample to be analyzed for coliform bacteria
and.,petroleum hydrocarbons using methods EPA 524.2 & 8260. Analyses to be
performed by a State Certified laboratory using San Joaqun County PHS detection limits.
etermine casing size, depth, and intervals screened from the driIIers log and
4{`.. ampion .details (if that data is available.) If that data is not available, or of doubtful
reliahbilty; casing size & screened intervals will be determined by direct or indirect
n, 3
s
