i
Jim Barton Re Speedy Foods 7rea4rr' System Status PagJ
f
From: Jim Barton i
To: Lane, John
Date: Thu, May 19, 2005 10:24 AM
Subject: Re: Speedy Foods Treatment System Status
I
John,
I"ve completed the first phase of my evaluation of the sequestering agent for descaling. With the
concurrence of my management, I ask that you analyze the pre-treatment (influent)groundwater for total
and dissolved metals, to provide a baseline for the second phase of my evaluation. The rationale for my
request comes from a memo evaluating a similar product for controlling scale on an air stripper at a
military facility in my region. That memo recommended injecting a sequestering agent at 5 parts per
million, instead of hydrochloric acid injection and carbonic acid injection. The memo also stated that the
sequestering agent should not be used if Iron and Manganese were present in groundwater at a
concentration of 1 part per million or greater. Please call-me if you have questions;onto discuss.Phase 2:
the installation of the descaling system, and revisions to the general permit's Notice of Applicability, to
include additional routine monitoring and effluent limits. Thanks for your inquiry.
Jim Barton 1
James L.L.
