Canepa Is Car Wash
6230 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California April 28, 1994
Phase H Site Characterization Page: 3
plasticity, consistency of the earth materials, pertinent soil or bedrock characteristics
and any evidence of contamination were noted All water-bearing zones and the depths
at which they were encountered were also noted on these logs(Appendix F)
All borings were drilled in such a manner as to prevent cross contamination between
strata. Upon termination, the borings were completed as monitoring wells and
backfilled with cement grout, after a bentonite seal had been placed The boring
diameters were at least flinches greater than the well casing diameters of two and four
inches
' The cuttings from the drilling operation were added to the existing spoils oils P ile on-site
and will be disposed of as soon as the pile has been characterized
3.2 Well Cons&uction
All matenals used in well construction were thoroughly cleaned prior to introduction
into the boring Threaded PVC well casing with threaded end caps and factory
perforations for placement in the saturated zone was placed in the boring The screen
and filter pack sizes are as rioted on the Bonng/Well Completion Logs (Appendix F)
The filter pack extends at least two feet above the perforated zone A bentonite seal
two feet thick was placed in the annular space above the filter pack followed by a
cement grout to the surface Seal and filter pack elevations vaned based on the
underlying geology
3.3 Alen Dewjopment and Sampling
The wells were developed until the well water appeared clear of sediment, or until an
appropriate number of well volumes (based upon the judgment of the responsible
professional) had been evacuated The water produced during well development was
containerized and left on-site in SS gallon drums for disposal as hazardous waste if
deemed necessary upon receipt of laboratory results Disposal will be the responsibility
of the client unless other arrangements have been made The wells were allowed to
stabilize for twenty-four hours prior to sampling
3.4 Soil Sampling
All soil srumpling equipment was thorougWy steam-cleaned before and between
sampling to prevent cross-contamination Relatively undisturbed soil samples were
taken at twenty feet and every five foot interval thereafter in order to evaluate the
