Underground Utility Survey
Prior to installing extraction wells and conducting trenching activities,
available utility records will be reviewed, and an underground utility
survey of the construction area will be performed. The purpose of the
utility survey is to locate any subsurface obstructions or utilities that could
be damaged during subsurface construction activities. If subsurface
obstructions or utilities are present at extraction well or trench locations,
the obstruction or utility will be removed or relocated, or the extraction
well location or pipeline layout will be adjusted as necessary.
Establishment of Equipment and Material Staging Areas
Prior to initiating construction activities, a staging area will be established.
The staging area serves the following purposes:
• Provides a location for storage of construction material where the
materials will not be compromised by weather or vandalism.
Accordingly, the staging area will be level, and fenced as necessary.
Construction material sensitive to weather will be elevated above
the ground surface to prevent contact with surface water, and
covered as necessary.
• Provides a central location for storage of construction equipment.
Some construction equipment may be in contact with impacted soil
during construction activities. Therefore, the staging area will have
an associated equipment storage area to minimize the spreading of
impacted soil. Additionally, the staging area may include an
adjacent equipment decontamination area. The equipment
decontamination area will include equipment such as brooms and
water hoses and a water supply as necessary to decontaminate
equipment.
Any soil or water generated as part of equipment decontamination
activities will be containerized and sampled to determine the appropriate
method for disposal.
7-2
