. 30 September 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
Page 2of5
Each well will be completed using two-inch diameter PVC casing with 0 02 screen from 35 to 55
feet in depth This well design should allow for adequate ground water sampling interval in the event
of future fluctuations in ground water elevation Monitoring well design is illustrated in Figure 3 -
Monitoring Well Design
Each boring will be advanced utilizing a truck-mounted, hollow stem drill rig equipped with 8 25-
inch hollow-stem augers Soil samples will be collected every five feet beginning at a depth of five
feet bsg Samples will be collected using a California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves or a
continuous core sampler The samples will be driven by dropping a 140-pound weight from a height
of 30 inches The number of blows required to dn,.e each 6-inch length of the sampler(blow counts)
are to be recorded on the boring logs by ani AGE staff geologist
Upon sample retrieval, the middle brass sleeve will be removed from the sampler The ends of the
sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon sheets, sealed with plastic end caps, secured with
tape and immediately placed under ice in a chilled container for transportation to a State-certified
laboratory Each soil sample sleeve will be labeled with the following boring location, N ertical
depth, time, date and sampler's initials
•
3 2 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox All hollow stem augers are steam-cleaned prior to
advancement in each borehole
3 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d), volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethyl-
benzene and total xylenes BTE&X) and methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA
methods 8015m/5030 and 8020/602 Selected soil samples will also be analyzed for intrinsic
permeability, moisture content, porosity anti total organic carbon TOC) in accordance with the
appropriate EPA or ASTM methods
Laboratory reports of both soil and ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be
presented in a report with the findings and recommendations
i
