PROCEDURES
3 1 INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS
The following procedures will be performed the installation of monitoring wells
1 Notify the PHS-EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper
city/county soil boring permits
2 Boring locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service
AIert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes
3 Advance four soil borings, using a truck-mounted drill ng, and 8 25-inch diameter hollow
stem augers Four borings will be advanced to depths of 55 feet Boring locations will be
approved by the PHS-EHD prior to drilling
4 Decontaminate all sampling equipment in an alconox solution and rinse twice with water
prior to each sampling run Steam-clean auger flights before advancement of each boring
. 5 Sample soil from each boring, beginning at five feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon
sampler and pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves or using a split barrel continuous core
sampler
6 Preserve soil in the brass sleeve by covering both ends with aluminum foil or Teflon tape,
capping, and sealing with tape
7 Store the samples under ice and transport the samples to a chilled ice chest to a State-
certified laboratory for analysis
8 Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector (PID)pre-calibrated to isobutylene
9 Log borings to accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
10 Selected soil samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTE&X and MTBE in
accordance with the appropriate EPA methods Selected soil samples will be released to a
State-certified laboratory to be analyzed for intrinsic permeability, moisture content, porosity
and total organic carbon in accordance with the appropttate EPA/ASTM methods
11 Complete each soil boring to a ground water monitoring well Each well will be completed
using two-inch diameter PVC casings and 4 02 screen from 35 to 55 feet in depth A filter
pack(42 Lonestar Sand) will be installed from 33 to 55 feet bsg A two foot bentonite plug
will be installed over the filter pack and the well will be grouted to the surface with Portland
. Cement A traffic box will be installed with each well See Figure 3
