ARCADIS Phase II Field
Investigation Work Plan
• Installing and sampling monitoring wells. Union Pacific Railroad
Company
Former Maintenance Facility
Field activities will be conducted in phases beginning with LIF, and followed by Tracy,California
CPT/HydroPunchTm and monitoring wells.Additional LIF and CPT/HydroPunchTM
locations will be drilled until the investigation objectives have been met and the data
gaps are filled. The locations of the monitoring wells will be based on data from the first
LIF and CPT/HydroPunchTM phases. Borings and monitoring wells will be installed
under this Work Plan until the objectives stated in this Work Plan are satisfied;
additional work that may be necessary will be submitted as an addendum to this
Work Plan.
2. Work Plan Implementation
This Phase II Investigation Work Plan proposes a combination of LIF/CPT borings,
CPT/HydroPunchTM locations, and groundwater monitoring wells to address the data
gaps outlined in Section 1.1.The procedures for the pre-field activities(including
permitting and utility clearance),the Health and Safety Plan, and the procedures for the
LIF/CPT borings are presented in the LPH Investigation Work Plan(ARCADIS 2008a).
The procedures for the CPT/HydroPunchTm borings and for the well installations are
included in Appendices A and B, respectively. Details of the field activities to be
conducted in Phase II are provided below.
2.1 CPT/LIF Borings
Nineteen CPT/LIF borings are proposed (Figure 3)to further delineate LPH in the
vicinity of the source area.As in Phase I, lithologic data and real-time fluorescence
measurements will be obtained and additional borings will be added as needed, based
on the results of these 19 borings. Borings will be advanced to the top of the A-zone to
a maximum depth of 30 feet bgs. CTP and LIF methods are described in the LPH
Investigation Work Plan(ARCADIS 2008a). CPT/LIF boring locations have been
selected to:
• Further delineate LPH outside the area that had been investigated in Phase I;
• Investigate potential LPH sources associated with the suspected underground
piping in the vicinity of the track pan area and the Engine House; and
• Further delineate LPH in the vicinity of wells where LPH has been historically
observed, particularly MW-06A and TW-04.
C:\Doarments and Setlings\khrandt\Local Senmgs\Temporary Internet Files\ContenLOLdook\52SXLSSI\Phase 11 WP_01_05_09(2).doo 3/6
