Project No. S8100-06-30-
September 15, 1995
Page 2
1
Soil samples were obtained beneath the product piping at the elbow (Piping #1), beneath the
unleaded fuel dispenser (Piping #2), and beneath the diesel dispenser (Piping #3) at depths that
ranged from approximately 1.2 to 1.4 meters (4 to 4.5 feet) below ground surface (bgs). The
piping samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), diesel
(TPHd), motor oil (TPHmo), kerosene (TPHk), and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total
xylenes (BTEX). The results of laboratory tests indicated nondetected concentrations of the target
compounds with the exception of 92 mg/kg TPHk detecied in soil sample Piping #3 which was
collected at a depth of L2 meters (4 feet) bgs, beneath the diesel dispenser.
Groundwater was not encountered within the UST and piping excavations. The excavations were
subsequently backfilled and repaved with asphalt concrete.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Outlined below is a summary of the scope of services performed by Geocon under Task Order
10-5F 1000-12.
e Conducted a Prework Site Visit on Jul 13, 1995, attended b Mr. Saiyed Ali and Mr.
Y Y
Japtej Gill of Caltrans and Mr. John Juhrend of Geocon, to perform a preliminary survey
! of the work area and to mark the proposed boring locations. The Prework Site Visit
Checklist and Completion Schedule were subsequently discussed and signed by.Mr.,John
Juhrend and Mr. Japtej Gill.
* Obtained a well permit from the SJCEHD. A copy of the permit is attached as Appendix
A.
© Contacted Underground Service Alert (USA Ticket No. 153557) on July 27, 1995, to
a advise subscribing utility companies of the soil boring activities.
o Prepared a site specific Health and Safety plan dated July 25, 1995, to provide guidelines
on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the health and safety procedures to
be implemented during the field activities.
D Retained a subcontractor,Western Strata Exploration, to drill eight exploratory soil borings
(SBI through S138) to a maximum depth of 14.0 meters (46 feet) bgs utilizing a truck-
mounted drill rig equipped with 203.2-mm (eight-inch) diameter hollow stem augers.
G Submitted forty-five soil samples to Sparger Technology Incorporated (Sparger) for
C chemical analysis following chain-of-custody protocol.
